Light up your space

Lighting plays a huge roll when decorating a space.  It takes it from nothing special to fabulous!  I find that most of the time people will pick a fixture that is either too small for the room or a fixture that looks like an afterthought.  You spend so much time putting together everything else and the lighting should be no exception.

I like to go by a few general rules guidelines ( I have a problem with rules):

1. When hanging a fixture above a dining table the bottom of the fixture should be around 30" from the table.
2. When hanging pendants in a hall/entryway or a place where someone will be walking under it, the bottom should be no less than 7' from the floor.
3.  A pendant above a kitchen island or peninsula the bottom should be approximately 6' from the floor.
4.  Using two smaller chandeliers for a long dining room table always looks great.
5.  For an average size dining table the chandelier should be around 12" narrower than the width of the table.

Although keeping all that in mind rules are meant to be broken and I love to play with scale and push the envelope to make a space feel truly unique.
